The four types of sports massage

Choose the one that fits where you are — training, the day before, the day after, or coming back from injury.

Maintenance

Regular, to stay loose

Maintenance massage is a more regular treatment to loosen off tightness within soft tissues to improve performance and prevent injury. It will help alleviate the stress and tension which builds up in the body's soft tissues, using concentrated firm pressure and specific techniques. This encourages relaxation, energises tired muscles and can improve posture.

Pre Event

Fast and light, before

Fast, light techniques are used to provide stimulation and increase blood flow to promote oxygen absorption within the relevant muscle groups. This enables the muscles to work at their optimum level and can enhance performance by increasing flexibility and range of movement whilst reducing the risk of injury.

Post Event

Recovery, after

Post-event massage is geared towards aiding the muscles to return to their natural pre event state. It speeds up the removal of metabolic waste products from the muscles and aids in the elimination of toxins which reduce muscle spasms and fatigue. Post event massage enhances the body's own recovery process improving the ability to return to training and competition, and reduces the risk of injury.

Rehab

Back from injury

Even with preventative maintenance, muscles cramp, tear, bruise, and ache. Sports massage can speed healing, reduce pain and discomfort during the rehabilitation process and reduce the risk of re-injury.

Cupping — the process

The cups are placed on the skin in areas of tender/tight muscles or trigger points, then either moved along muscles to release the underlying fascia or the cups are left in place. The skin will normally redden due to increased blood flow. The cup is removed from the skin once treatment is complete. Red marks are a result of the blood being pulled into that area. The darker the mark, the more stagnant fluids (toxins, blood and lymph) were dredged up during treatment. The marks last anywhere from a few hours to several days.

Meet Zara

She knows what being injured feels like.

As an experienced swimmer and lifesaver - World Record holder, 2x European Record holder, 9x World Champion, 9x European Champion, 2x Top Overall Commonwealth Champion - I know what it's like to be injured.

I have experienced the pain and discomfort, the frustration at not being able to train properly and the feeling of helplessness when injuries don't magically fix themselves.

I have benefitted myself from a lot of sports massage treatments and they have helped me to reach the top of my sport. As well as treatment following injuries, I regularly receive both pre-event and post-event treatments which can enhance performance and aid recovery. This is why I wanted to study and train to become a Sports Massage Therapist, so that I could help others become the best that they can be.

I've also seen how effective massage can be in reducing tension and pain in people who aren't athletes and even if my clients are just wanting to keep their bodies fit and healthy, I know I can help them too.

Testimonials

In their words.

I first saw Zara when I was having major issues with my shins from running, her treatments are exceptional and she fixed the problem within a few treatments. I now see her regularly for a maintenance massage and would not dream of seeing anyone else. Would recommend to anyone.

Mollie

I first had a sports massage by Zara a while back now, had very bad back pain all over due to never looking after my back properly after weight training on a regular basis, I couldn't believe how many knots you could get in just the back area, caused all sorts of pain and discomfort. Nowadays I have regular appointments with Zara, she's like a miracle worker and keeps my back feeling great and knot and pain free.

Ed

Great work, suffered shoulder pain for a long time and finally after 1 session with Zara feel so much better. It was slightly painful but in a good way, Zara knew exactly what was needed pressure wise and where. Surprised how much better it felt as used other masseurs and had hardly any relief. Would highly recommend!

Before you come

Questions people ask.

What do I wear to my Sports Massage appointment?

Comfortable underwear. During the whole session you will be covered with a towel and only the part of your body that is being worked on will be exposed.

This is my first Sports Massage treatment - What should I expect?

For the first appointment, you will be expected to fill in a client consultation form outlining any medical conditions, doctor's details, plus any contraindications. If you have any doubts of any conditions prior to treatment – please consult your GP.

I am not an athlete - Will I still benefit from a Sports Massage treatment?

Yes. Each treatment will be personally planned for the client, whether they are a professional athlete, an occasional runner or a couch potato! If you experience pain or soreness in your neck or shoulders, for example, from sitting at your desk for too long, or from hours spent on your mobile phone, a Sports Massage will help alleviate the stress and tension which builds up in the body's soft tissues, using concentrated firm pressure and specific techniques. This encourages relaxation, energises tired muscles and can improve posture.

Prices and payment

Payment can be made by cash, bank transfer or cheque. Prices and special offers are subject to change without notice.

Cancellations

Please give at least 24 hours notice of any cancellations. Failure to do so may result in a charge of treatment value.

Gift vouchers

Gift vouchers are available for all treatments. They are valid for 6 months and cannot be redeemed for cash or refunded.

Appointments

The real build puts a live diary here.

In the finished site this is where you would pick a clinic room or a mobile visit, choose 30, 60 or 90 minutes, and take a slot straight from Zara's own diary — at midnight, the night before a race, or whenever the thought strikes. Nothing on this preview submits. For now, Zara books by text or email.

About this preview

This is a one-page prototype, built in an afternoon from what is publicly on Zara's site. It is a taste of the direction, not the final thing.

The real build would be considerably more detailed. It would carry her real pages — Home, About, Services, Contact, Testimonials, Appointments — along with her own photography, every treatment in full, live booking on her own diary for both clinic rooms and mobile visits, SEO and analytics, a complete price list and working contact forms.

What is real and what is a placeholder:

  • The three prices shown (£30 / £50 / £75) are her own published prices.
  • The three testimonials are her own published testimonials, quoted verbatim.
  • No cupping or mobile price is shown because her site publishes none — those spaces are left visibly unfilled.
  • The portrait frame is empty because there is no photograph of Zara to use.
  • Any "book" control is illustrative and nothing submits. No forms, no cookies, no data is collected.

Deleted immediately on request.
